Humble ISD Girls Basketball Players Honored with All-District Awards and Selections

By: Joshua Koch | March 10, 2023

It was another solid year in girls basketball in Humble ISD.

Three Humble ISD teams made it to the playoffs, finishing in the top four in their respective district standings. Humble girls basketball took fourth in District 21-6A, punching their ticket to the postseason for the first time since 2020. Summer Creek finished second in District 21-6A and Kingwood Park took second in District 16-5A.

In the postseason, Summer Creek made a run to its sixth-straight Regional Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Channelview (70-12), Alief Hastings (57-44) and Shadow Creek (56-30) to reach the Regional Tournament. In the Region III-6A Semifinals, Summer Creek defeated Memorial 57-36 to advance to the Region III-6A Championship for a second-straight season and the fourth time in program history. The Lady Bulldogs fell short to Pearland (39-26) to have their season come to an end with a 35-5 overall record.

Kingwood Park senior Biva Byrd was named the District 16-5A MVP at season’s end after averaging 18.3 points and 14.6 rebounds per game.

“I’m so proud of Biva,” Kingwood Park girls basketball coach Andrew Cross said. “To be unanimously named the District’s MVP is truly an honor. She has given four years to Kingwood Park Girls Basketball. Biva is a special player and she will be missed.”

In District 21-6A, Summer Creek’s Kennedy Simpson was named the Defensive Player of the Year, while Zachara Perkins earned the nod for Newcomer of the Year.
