Humble ISD officials broke ground August 22 for Elementary School #29 that is being built in Lakewood Pines.
www.humbleisd.net The new school will help accommodate Humble ISD's rapid growth. "It's a fast-growing school district where so many families want to have their children," Humble ISD Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Fagen said. "We have been constantly building, growing and monitoring enrollment."
The school, designed by Joiner Architects, will incorporate natural light and include areas that allow students to collaborate with each other. The layout is based on a series of pods comprised of classrooms located around a central gathering space for each grade level. The campus will also incorporate enhanced security features.
The one-story building will be 116,450 square feet and will serve students in kindergarten through fifth grade. "This is the next step forward in providing the facilities and opportunities for students and staff that we value," Dr. Fagen said. Gamma Construction was awarded a $28.9 million contract to construct the new school.
The new campus, funded by 2008 bond funds, will be the district's 29th elementary school. It will be named later this school year. Alison Pierce will serve as the school's principal. She has an extensive background in elementary education as a teacher and administrator. "The most rewarding aspect of opening elementary #29 will be meeting new students, families, staff and community members," Pierce said.
