The Lone Star College-Kingwood Music Department performs a variety of concerts each year to showcase musical programs in an entertaining environment. One of the most exciting of those is the "Stellar Evening."

"Our talented students perform in a variety of student ensembles such as the Concert Choir and Jazz Ensemble. They also excel at the annual Summer Opera Workshop," said Dr. Todd Miller, chair of Visual and Performing Arts at LSC-Kingwood.

In addition to showcasing programs, the department also enjoys highlighting talented faculty members at its annual fundraiser, "Stellar Evening." The community is invited to the 22nd production on Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall. This year's recitalists are audience favorites: Kristin and Andrew Briggs, Pat Brink, Barbara Butler, Dr. John Crabtree, Marion Russell Dickson, Dr. Robert Hunt, Nell Matthews, Dr. Todd Miller, and Dr. Xia Xia Zhang. Also, soprano Jan Cornelius, a new faculty member, will perform several solos.

"This annual faculty concert features the diversity of our performing faculty as well as a diversity of styles-all in a 75-minute, fast-moving concert," Miller said. "The audience will be treated to a potpourri of sounds and a wonderful dessert reception where they can mingle with the artists."

"Stellar Evening" celebrates the 25th anniversary of the LSC-Kingwood Music Department. The faculty will feature hit music from classical piano, violin, and opera, as well as a variety of lighter genres including Jazz, Blues, Broadway, and the American songbook.

"To see this program grow from one faculty teaching voice with a rented keyboard in 1994 to a department of 25 music faculty and state-of-the-art facilities in 2019 is very exciting," Miller said. "The college and community have grown and matured, and our current faculty are all professionals in their unique niche of the music world."

General admission tickets to "Stellar Evening" are $25, and a dessert reception will follow. Proceeds from the event will go toward music scholarships. Due to limited seating, reservations are recommended. Attendees can purchase tickets at www.lonestar.edu/UpcomingEvents. For more information, call 281-312-1709 or email [email protected].
